“Corruption as a Global Issue”
Current Affairs Forum - Sunday, May 17, 2009 - 6:30 - 8:00 pm
Cafe Roland
Nations have always had to contend with the problem of corruption. But in the midst of the current global economic crisis, the problem of corruption has gained an even higher profile as citizens question the integrity of financial and business leaders as well as the reliability of political leaders whose job it is to protect the interests of the people.
As Deputy Chief of Mission and Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Bratislava, Keith Eddins and his staff have spent a significant amount of time and energy focusing on counter-corruption efforts. Mr. Eddins will discuss the problems associated with corruption -- both globally and in Slovakia. He will also talk about the world community’s response and describe specific U.S. counter-corruption and good governance programs in Slovakia.
The forum (in English) will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2009, at Roland Café, Hlavne Namestie 5. Arrive at 6:30 pm to order coffee and cake, a beer or a glass of wine from the restaurant, and then join the presentation and discussion on the lower level from 6:45 to 8:00 pm.
Reservations can be made by sending an email to currentaffairsbratislava@gmail.com. Please include your name and the names of any guests. If you have questions about this program, contact Janna Haug at jannahaug@yahoo.com
