Are you an expatriate family living in Slovakia?
We would like to invite to a very interesting presentation by Ruth Van Reken who is a co-author of
Third Culture Kids: The Experience of Growing Up Among Worlds
- Tuesday 21st of April at 18:30 at Penati Club, Agátová 33, Dubravka - Bratislava
Please confirm your attendance at: office@bisb.sk by April 10th 2009 at the latest.
Who are Third Culture Kids?
They belong to a Cross-Cultural Kids generation which could be:
• Traditional TCKs - children who move into another culture with parents due to a parent’s career
choice;
• Children of immigrants - children whose parents have made a permanent move to a new country where
they were not originally citizens;
• “Domestic” TCKs - children whose parents have moved in or among various subcultures within that
child’s home country;
• International adoptees - children adopted by parents from another country other than the one of that
child’s birth, etc.
Ruth will be talking about the benefits and pitfalls of expatriate living, as experienced by children who
attend also international schools – the so-called ‘Third Culture Kids’ (TCKs). Ruth is a second generation
adult TCK herself and a mother of a further three TCKs. She speaks nationally and internationally about this subject. She is also the co-founder of Families in Global Transition.
